Coming to CHALKBOX: Yoga for Sports

A new class on the schedule

We are excited to introduce you all to Christine. Christine is a yoga teacher and specializes in yoga for athletes (sports):

“ I am trained in the vinyasa flow style (one of the most common yoga styles nowadays), but I also teach yoga for athletes and in sport. In fact, that is all I teach now - I spent most of last year studying under a fabulous lady called Sarah Ramsden and I think it is safe to say that she is the ultimate authority in terms of yoga-inspired functional movement practice. She was at Man City/ManU for over 10 years. If it's good enough for Ryan Giggs, it is definitely good enough for the rest of us. I really love it, and that is all I teach now. It's based on functional movement patterns (meaning I don't teach any crazy contortions). My main interest is recovery - so I do a lot around that in terms of relaxation etc. (but not the Om Shanti type stuff!). I've got lots of men among my students (only public classes I teach these days are in CF gyms) and what is most important to me is that my students feel like yoga is absolutely for them, that it is accessible, and suitable for everybody. Don't have to be super flexible or whatever. Anyone can do it, and everyone should do it :) “

A yoga class is more than just a mobility session - the practice of yoga asana (the postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises) aims to gently bring you into a parasympathetic state (see above), thus promoting recovery. Furthermore, you will:

  • Improve proprioception (i.e. joint position and motion in space)

  • Develop an awareness of what it means to move well and within a healthy range of motion for your body, and how to work with restrictions and compensatory patterns

  • Prevent injury

  • Learn to breathe mindfully and practice different techniques, including abdominal breathing, which you can then apply in your sport

When?

  • Every Wednesday 7:45pm - live stream sessions - starting April 8th

Who?

  • For all CHALKBOX members
