Why am I not getting stronger?

I train a lot, follow my program but I don’t feel much stronger and more importantly I don’t look much stronger”

We hear this occasionally at CHALKBOX so we like to spend some time on how we can fix this.

There can be different factors in why your training is not giving you the results you are after. The most important factor would be your program. Are you following the correct program and is the program designed for your specific goals?

But an other very important factor is your health. How healthy are you at the moment? If you have high blood pressure or your glucose levels are all over the place or maybe your gut health needs fixing, these are important factors why you are not making much progress at the gym.

If your goal is to get strong and look trimmed, your gym sessions must be the biggest stress factor on your body in general. At the gym you put force on your body (stress) and your body will get stronger while recovering.

If you are not healthy, or if you have a lot of stress going on in your life there is a good chance that these factors will be given priority by your body to try to recover first..

So if you have done a heavy workout, but you are also dealing with a lot of stress at work, your body will focus on trying to recover from the stress that is going on in your head and therefore will not recover much from your heavy training. This means that you will always be ‘under recovered’ and therefore won’t make progress.

In our western world we all will have to deal with stresses one way or another. And that’s okay as long as your program is designed around your lifestyle.

Our health coaches can help you. We can advise you how to measure your current stress levels, how to check your current health and how to train for results.
