What shoes should you wear - by Coach Katie

Do we really need CrossFit trainers?

Quite simply ‘Crossfitters’ tend to wear different trainers as we need a shoe that will support the variety of functional activities that we under take (e.g jump, lift, sprint, climb).  Runners need a shoe with a well cushioned heel to support the linear action of a runner and to cushion the heel for all that pummelling.  These typical running trainers also tend to push weight forward which does not help when you are squatting, jumping, pushing or undertaking any of the olympic lifts.  Can you imagine doing an overhead squat on a soft squishy training shoe?

Where you go from here in terms of which shoe brand to choose (Reebok, Nike, Nobull, Inov8) comes down to personal preference and your feet!  What all these shoes do have in common however is that they are designed to support varied Crossfit Workouts (over a long period of time) with a high level of protection which may help to reduce the risk of injury.

You don’t have to have crossfit trainers, but if you want to move well and adapt easily to most workouts they are well worth the investment.
