NEW Mum and Baby classes
Every Monday at 10.30am (starting Monday 4th April), CHALKBOX will be running a new Mum & Baby Classes designed especially for postnatal women. Agnes - the owner of CHALKBOX is a mum of 3 herself and knows it can be a struggle to get back in shape after giving birth.
We know how hard it can be to find time to exercise, especially with a little one in tow, so babies are welcome at the Mum & Baby Classes. We have created a cozy snug which is perfect if your baby needs a feed and a changing area with a baby changing mat provided.
Our sessions are a brilliant fitness regimen for postnatal women.
Here’s why:
Our workouts are ‘infinitely scalable’. Put simply: in a session, a world class athlete and a postnatal woman would do the same workout, but would scale or substitute movements according to their own capabilities. Everything is tailored to you – in that respect it is like having very good value personal training! Everyone works to the best of their own individual ability.
Classes are small and you are closely monitored by the coaches. With such close attention being paid, any issues can be easily spotted and you are supported to complete the workouts in a safe and efficient manner – which is especially important in the post-natal period.
Our workouts are relatively short. New parents are tired, and time poor. Why slog away alone on a treadmill for an hour when within the same time frame (sessions last 1 hour) you could warm up and stretch properly, learn a new skill and do an intense (and more beneficial) shorter workout?
At the heart of our workouts is the concept of functional fitness: fitness that we use in our everyday lives. As a parent, you might not realise it but you are weightlifting on a daily basis. Babies might start off quite small but they soon get big and heavy, and require lugging around along with change bags, car seats, buggies… We teach you how to lift and carry heavy or odd objects safely and efficiently.
Our sessions are fun. We have a very supportive community with a diverse range of members. You’ll meet new friends and going to the gym is a social event in itself – which is good motivation when you’re lacking some get up and go! Being a mum can be a difficult and lonely road at times, and the social aspect of CHALKBOX is extremely beneficial.
