The Next Program Cycle for CHALKLIFT

Move better, Lift heavier

We are starting a new program cycle for ChalkLift.

What is ChalkLift?

In ChalkLift we focus on functional strength.

Functional Strength Training is defined as: “Training that attempts to mimic the specific physiological demands of real-life activities.” Lifting a heavy load overhead is a fantastic measure for Hercules or the competitive weightlifter but the history of manual labor has consisted of something very different.

Can you pick up a heavy sandbag without hurting your back? Can you balance with one leg on a beam holding something heavy overhead?

So what can you expect? You won’t be using heavy loaded barbells but you will be exposed to strength exercises with different equipment. We will be using movements which will slow you down and make you connect with your body and learn what proper movement is supposed to look like. We will incorporate functional body building movements inspired by Marcus Filly. We will work on mobility, technique and strength. The ChalkLift sessions are designed to help our members move better and stronger. ChalkLift sessions are a ‘MUST do’ to improve your WOD times and strength in our CrossFit sessions.

What can you expect in the coming 6 weeks?

Tuesdays

We will be working on UPPER BODY

Upper Body Strength improves speedbalance and strength which are generated through the muscles of the upper body. Building and strengthening the large muscles increases muscle tissue in the body which will help burn more fat. Helps to prevent and relieve upper back, neck and shoulder pain.

Thursdays

We will be working on LOWER BODY.

These lifts are enormous aids to developing the power zone (hip flexors, hip extensors, spinal erectors, and quadriceps). As you progress through the lifts, the importance of core to extremity muscle recruitment is learned and reinforced. This is foundational to the effective and efficient performance of athletic movement, and alone would justify the practice and training of these lifts.
